Beyond the Banquet
Beyond the Banquet showcases a collaboration between ceramic artist Georgina Yen Qin Lee and award-winning pastry chef Raymond Tan, with photographs by Kaede James Takamoto and essay by Cher Tan. Taking visual, cultural, and sculptural cues from Peranakan Chinese banquet traditions, this body of work brings to life a vibrant array of Nyonya kuih on meticulously handcrafted tableware.
At its heart, Beyond the Banquet is a love letter to those who navigate mixed cultural identities, celebrating the diverse personal experiences found in these ‘third culture’ spaces.
The book also contains a surprise recipe of a beloved Nyonya kuih from Raymond Tan and an essay by Georgina Yen Qin Lee sharing details of the project's development.
